Three Burke County students are being questioned by investigators at this hour. Authorities suspect they may be behind the creation of an explosive device that was taken to Burke County High School this morning.
The school is on Veterans Parkway in Waynesboro. We’re told the device was a plastic bottle filled with Draino and some aluminum strips. A chemical reaction caused the device to explode. It went off in the high school’s common area, near the lunchroom this morning. No one was hurt. Several students heard the blast and ran away. The school was put on lockdown.
Sheriff Greg Coursey says two of the students being questioned are minors, one is 18. The suspects in this case will likely face felony charges, according to the sheriff.
